Watercolour - Sip & Paint Brushpen Picture Postcard Workshop

In this workshop, join Caroline to create a set of seasonal postcards using pen and watercolour. Etegami (picture postcards from Japan) are a snapshot of the moment, a chance to relax, draw and paint and capture an item close to you in your everyday life. Add a special message, poem, quote, bible verse or even recipe to annotate your work. Send to a friend or loved one or keep as artwork for your home. Templates will be provided to aid your creativity or feel free to bring along items or photographs from home, that you would love to draw and paint. Enjoy the welcoming and cozy atmosphere at The Talbot Hotel, a great place for meeting new friends, learning new skills and enjoying great hospitality.

Sashiko Embroidery - Japanese-inspired coaster set with storage box

In this workshop at Tudor Rose Patchwork, join Caroline in a sashiko workshop. Create a set of coasters, sewn on the machine (or by hand) and embellished by hand with a range of sashiko patterns. Stitch with stencils designed by Caroline and available at Tudor Rose Patchwork. Work with the stunning and traditional indigo blue and white colour way or choose your fabrics and threads to coordinate or make a statement. Also create a clever way of containing them as a set. Give as a gift or keep for your home. Learn a little about Japanese culture, seasonal influences and hear about her experiences of living in Japan and learning from skilled craftspeople. While you are at Tudor Rose Patchwork, enjoy the delicious special lunchtime menu at their coffee shop, O For Coffee.

Shibori Dyeing - Furoshiki fabric giftwrap workshop

In this workshop, join Caroline to create a set of 3 different sized hand dyed wrapping cloths known as furoshiki. Explore the different shibori binding and wrapping techniques that create stunning patterns in a range of colours. Learn a little about this amazing Japanese technique along with stories from summers spent living in Japan. Relax in the welcoming and friendly atmosphere at Leicestershire Craft Centre, a great place for meeting new friends and learning from experienced creative people. Enjoy tea and coffee while working and either bring your own packed lunch or take a stroll in beautiful Market Harborough during our lunch break.

In the workshop, join Caroline to hand-embroider with pretty embroidery threads on Japanese-inspired temari balls (approximately 45mm diameter.) A new workshop exploring embroidery on light-weight thread-wrapped balls. A sustainable project, a lot of the materials can be used from previous projects with many options of alternative materials. Decorate your home for the season or give as a special gift. Choose from a selection of prepared balls. Using embroidery thread from a selection of colours, form a design based on a traditional pattern but with a modern twist. Hear some of Caroline’s stories from living in Japan and learning from skilled craftspeople. Give hand-stitching a go in a relaxed environment.

Hand Sewing - Japanese Inspired Xmas Wreath Workshop

In this workshop, join Caroline to hand sew and form pretty and realistic felt flowers and leaves, in festive colourways. Present them on a cord rope wreath, inspired by the new year rice straw wreaths from Japan. We will include the symbolic Japanese flowers of winter – camellia, chrysanthemum and plum blossom. Using wire and beads to add texture and a ribbon or cord for impact. Discover a little about the symbolism of seasonal flowers, fruits and foods in Japanese culture. Take home and display proudly or even gift to a friend.
