In this workshop, join Caroline to fold and embroider a pretty fabric paper (stiffened cotton fabric) lidded gift box (approx. 8cm square and 4cm deep.) Choose from a selection of prepared fabrics, contrasting the lid with the base for a unique piece. Discover this twist on traditional sashiko embroidery techniques and learn a little about Japanese culture. Watch some extra gift wrap techniques using the fabric paper, that you can go on to repeat at home. Hear about Caroline’s experiences of living in Japan and learning from skilled craftspeople. Relax in the welcoming and friendly atmosphere at Leicestershire Craft Centre, a great place for meeting new friends and learning from experienced creative people. Enjoy tea and coffee while working.
If you prefer to simply embroider some traditional sashiko design on non-stiffened fabric, please let us know in the Notes when booking so we can provide this option.

In this workshop, join Caroline to create a set of 3 different sized hand dyed wrapping cloths known as furoshiki. Explore the different shibori binding and wrapping techniques that create stunning patterns in a range of colours. Learn a little about this amazing Japanese technique along with stories from summers spent living in Japan. If you like, bring along 100% woven cotton white ready to wear clothing such as shirt, skirt, blouse to dye on the day (subject to space and time.) Each item created is unique to the hand of the artist who did the wrapping and binding. Relax in the welcoming and friendly atmosphere at Leicestershire Craft Centre, a great place for meeting new friends and learning from experienced creative people. Enjoy tea and coffee while working and either bring your own packed lunch or take a stroll in beautiful Market Harborough during our lunch break.
Make sure you wear old clothes on the day as it can be messy with the fabric dyes and the water!

In this workshop at Tudor Rose Patchwork, join Caroline in a sashiko workshop. Create a Japanese knot bag style fabric bag, sewn on the machine and embellished by hand with a range of sashiko patterns. The finished bag will be reversible for two different looks. Choose colours and fabrics for yourself or as a gift for a friend. Stitch a small or medium bag to daily essential items, craft supplies, snacks on the go, cosmetics or whatever you fancy! The knot element of the design is said to symbolise protection and security. Learn a little about Japanese culture, seasonal influences and hear about her experiences of living in Japan and learning from skilled craftspeople. Explore embroidery on lightweight thread-wrapped balls. A sustainable project, a lot of the materials can be used from previous projects with many options of alternative materials. Decorate your home for the season or give as a special gift. Choose from a selection of prepared balls. Using embroidery thread from a selection of colours, form a design based on a traditional pattern but with a modern

Etegami (picture postcards from Japan) are a snapshot of the moment, a chance to relax, draw and paint and capture an item close to you in your everyday life. Add a special message, poem, quote, bible verse or even recipe to annotate your work. Send to a friend or loved one or keep as artwork for your home. Templates will be provided to aid your creativity or feel free to bring along items or photographs from home, that you would love to draw and paint.
